How to Promote Your Videos to Boost Views
When it comes to growing a YouTube channel, consistency is not the only factor. Waiting for the algorithm to work its magic isn’t enough. Promoting your videos effectively can dramatically increase your views, engagement and overall growth. Here’s what I’ve done and how to promote your videos to boost your views.
1. Don’t Rely Solely on the Algorithm
The YouTube algorithm is powerful, but it doesn’t guarantee visibility for new content, especially if you’re just starting out. Instead of hoping for views, actively promote your videos across various platforms to drive traffic.
2. Leverage Social Media Platforms
Back in the day, facebook was my go-to for sharing videos. Today, the options are endless:
- Facebook Groups: Share your content in niche-relevant groups. Many groups have active communities that might appreciate your content.
- Your Wall or Fan Pages: Post your videos on your timeline or dedicated fan pages to reach your audience.
- Other Platforms: Consider sharing links on platforms like Reddit, LinkedIn, Instagram Stories or even Twitter (now X).
Each share can create additional layers of traffic and engagement for your ideas.
3. Promote Videos in Online Communities
Join forums, communities or groups related to your niche. For instance:
- Reddit: Share your video in relevant subreddits, but make sure you follow the rules of the community.
- Craigslist or Niche Forums: Post your video where it fits naturally. This method worked well for me when I first started.
4. Repurpose and Distribute Content
Your YouTube videos are valuable assets. Repurpose them for other platforms to reach a wider audience:
- Snippets for Instagram and TikTok: Create bite-sized clips from your videos and link back to the full version on YouTube.
- Blog Posts: Turn video scripts into blog posts like this one to drive additional traffic.
- Email Newsletters: Include your latest video in your email updates to your subscribers.
5. Engage With Your Audience
Engagement creates visibility. Share your videos with your personal network, friends and family. Ask them for their thoughts and encourage comments, likes and shares.
6. Track and Measure Results
YouTube Studio provides analytics to track where your traffic is coming from. Under “Traffic Sources,” you can see how many views come from YouTube Search, External Sources (like Facebook or Reddit) and Suggested Videos. Knowing what works allows you to double down on effective strategies.
7. Consistency Pays Off
As you grow your library of content, you’ll have more videos to share across platforms. Promoting both new and older videos increase their visibility, boost watch time and improves the algorithm’s likelihood of suggesting your content.
Bonus Tip: Advertising Options
While organic promotion is powerful, consider experimenting with paid advertising to reach even more people. You can run ads on platforms like Facebook Ads, YouTube Ads and Instagram Sponsored Posts.
Final Thoughts
Promoting your content isn’t just about increasing views, it’s about building a community around your message. When you actively share and engage with your audience, you’ll see faster growth and better results.
So don’t just hit upload and wait, be proactive, share your videos and throw some gasoline on the fire to boost your views.
