My First Day Driving Uber: Here’s What Happened
I dove into driving for Uber for the first time. And I must say, it was a chill, rewarding experience. But before I started my first day driving Uber, I had to complete the process. To drive for Uber, there are a few things you need to complete.
First, you’ll need to sign up to become an Uber driver by entering in your personal details and selecting the city you want to drive in. Next, you’ll need to submit the required documents such as your driver’s license. After that, you’ll need to go through a back ground check. I started the process mid-week and my background check was cleared on Saturday. Depending on your state, you may need a business license and vehicle inspection. Don’t worry, the inspection is non-intrusive and only lasts a few minutes. We scheduled an appointment at an Uber Hub and the inspection station was literally in the parking lot. For me, it cost $20 and lasted 5-10 minutes. However on the website, it states that it can cost up to $40 depending on the facility.
Here in Nevada, I had to apply for a Sole Proprietor business license with the Secretary of State. It cost about $200. Additionally, to pick up and drop off at the airport, I had to get an Independent Contractor Driver business license in our county. The license was $70. So, in about 7 days and for about $300, I was ready to drive. You can click here for more information on requirements in your state. My first order was Uber Eats, which was not planned. I made the mistake of selecting Uber Eats instead of Uber Driving. Once I switched it to rides, I picked up my first few passengers. Most were tourists heading to popular spots on the Vegas Strip.
In about five hours, I managed to complete ten rides and earned $165, averaging $33 an hour. While just testing things out, I was surprised by how much I made, even with a few breaks. What stood out was the constant demand, especially on a Saturday in Vegas. I could see how this gig work could provide a reliable income stream alongside my online marketing work.
Driving Uber gives flexibility, allowing me to pick up quick cash while building my YouTube channel. This experience reminded me how important it is to keep an open mind. Many might hesitate to try rideshare because of pride or ego. But stepping out of that mindset can create real opportunities for financial stability. If you’re thinking about trying Uber, I’d say go for it!
